The present Museum building reflects the Indo-Islamic architecture with subtle domes, high arches, stylistic windows and projected eves. It was originally constructed in 1920s to house a rich collection of dolls of the Nizam’s daughter. Mir Osman Ali Khan, the VII Nizam first conceived the idea of a new museum to be developed exclusively to display art objects and converted this building into a museum complex, first to organize an Industrial Exhibition in 1928 and subsequently as Osmania Numaish Garh in 1930.He contributed his personal collection of art objects along with the antiquities recovered from the Nizam’s dominion for display on the advise of Dr.Ghulam Yazdani, the then Director of Archaeology Department and it was named as Hyderabad Museum, subsequently renamed as the State Museum under the Department of Archaeology and Museums of Government of Andhra Pradesh. CollectionsThe A.P.State Museum has rich collection of stone age implements, bronzes, paintings, stone sculptures, arms and weapons, textiles, Egyptian Mummy, manuscripts, miniature paintings and contemporary art collection, disseminate the knowledge to the native and foreign visitors.
