Mamta Mohandas to act in Homam Thursday, August 30, 2007 | PV
Actress Mamta Mohandas, the playback who turned actress with Yamadonga in Tollywood, is currently engaged to Jagapathi Babu’s film Homam. Though her performance in Yamadonga received appreciation, there is a feel among the heroes and producers that it would take some more time before she could dictate the figure of her remuneration. However, Mamta seems to be in a hurry to make fast buck. A noted director wanted to take in Mamta for a leading hero. But, he got irritated at the remuneration figure which nearly touched that of an Ileana or Trisha. Though the other end opted for a bargain, the captain wouldn’t budge. Aware of the tale of a Lazy Brahmin and his Dream in Panchatantra!

Patil gives clean chit to Andhra government in twin blasts Thursday, August 30, 2007 | MP
New Delhi, Aug 29 (ANI): Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil today gave a clean chit to the Andhra Pradesh Government for any lapses in Saturday's twin blasts in Hyderabad or the way it handled the situation later. Patil rejected opposition leaders' claim that the Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy-led state government had failed to tackle the situation. "The government of Andhra Pradesh was very alert and very careful, yet the incident has taken place. After that they have tried to help the victims," Patil said while replying to a special discussion in Parliament. However lawmakers of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and its ally, Samajwadi Party, staged a demonstration in front of Parliament demanding dismissal of the state government. TDP lawmaker K. Yerran Naidu said that even though the Centre has given instruction to all the state governments that blasts might happen in one of the metropolitan cities, the Andhra government has utterly failed in following the counter intelligence. “That is why the incident took place, 43 people lost their lives. Our honourable Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh has admitted— ‘I am owning the responsibility.’ What is the meaning of owning the responsibility if Rajasekhara Reddy (continues) as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh? If he continues, the law and order situation would deteriorate further," Naidu added. On Saturday, two bombs ripped through an amusement park and a small restaurant, killing 43 people. No one claimed responsibility, but police suspect Pakistan and Bangladesh based militant outfits to be behind the explosions. The bomb attacks came three months after a bomb went off in the Mecca Masjid in the city in May, which killed 11 people. (ANI)

Police probing Nagpur links Tuesday, August 28, 2007 | AA
Nagpur, Aug 27 (ANI): Nagpur Police is conducting investigations in the city to trace any connection to Saturday’s twin blasts in Hyderabad. Pursuing leads from materials used to make bombs, police officials said a chemical substance called neogel had been used to make the bombs. The chemical is used for blasting and mining purposes and is produced under restriction at Amin Explosives Limited in Nagpur about 350 kilometers north of Hyderabad. No arrests have been made so far, but Nagpur Police CommissionerSatyapal Singh said investigations are on. "There is no question of arresting anyone now. Just because the explosives that were used in the blast came from Nagpur, the company here is not responsible for the incident," said Singh. According to forensic experts, the bombs also contained ammonium nitrate and were placed in wooden boxes fitted with iron pellets. The explosives were kept in knapsacks. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy said that terrorist organisations operating from Bangladesh and Pakistan were suspected to be behind the twin blasts. Both Islamabad and Dhaka rejected the idea, saying Reddy was jumping into conclusions without evidence. Saturday's explosions claimed 42 lives and injured about 100 others. (ANI)
Normal life affected by BJPs shutdown call in Andhra Pradesh Tuesday, August 28, 2007 | MP
Hyderabad, Aug 27 (ANI): Normal life came to a standstill in Andhra Pradesh following a shutdown call given by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in protest against the State Government's 'soft stand' in the handling of terrorism.Vehicular traffic and bus services on roads were thin. Several private educational institutions declared a holiday in the wake of the shutdown. The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) also extended support to BJP workers, who gathered in different parts of Hyderabad and other towns to enforce the shutdown.Uday Kumar, a resident, said it was necessary to enforce the shutdown."The shutdown is valid because of Saturday’s incident. It's very sad and unfortunate. It is necessary for every individual to observe the shutdown," he said. Ali, another resident, said, “The people of Hyderabad are very nice. There are some bad people who are spoiling its atmosphere. The administration should take strict action against them.”Senior BJP leader L K Advani said the only way to tackle terrorism was to reintroduce the Prevention of Terrorist Act (POTA). Criticising the UPA Government, BJP President Rajnath Singh accused it of laxity in dealing with terrorism."The Congress-led UPA Government has made a mockery of the country when it comes to dealing with terrorism. India is probably the only country in the world where there are no strict laws to deal with terrorism. All other countries facing terrorist threats have stringent anti-terror laws," Singh claimed. Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil said that it would be inappropriate to discuss things 'openly' since the investigations into Saturday’s blasts are in an early stage. However, in contrast to Patil's assertion of not pointing fingers at other countries, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy said that terrorist organisations operating from Bangladesh and Pakistan were suspected to be behind the twin blasts. Saturday's explosions claimed 42 lives and injured about 100 others. (ANI)

Andhra Pradesh to use trained elephants to take on wild jumbos Saturday, August 25, 2007 | MP
Vizag (Andhra Pradesh), Aug 25 (ANI): Forest officials here are taking the help of trained elephants to counter a herd of wild jumbos that have killed four villagers in the region.A herd of elephants has gone on rampage in several villages along the Andhra Pradesh-Orissa border, and killed four villagers in the last one week alone.Scared villagers complained to forest officials, who in turn have brought in a specially trained elephant to help them.Jayanti is one of the dozens of elephants trained at a camp in Chittoor District, to befriend her wild friends and take them away from human habitation.Forest officer P.V. Ramana says once Jayanti is released among the herd, the task of diverting the herd should take about one week."Officers have already reached those villages, and will decide the future course of the operation. Jayanti is trained to make friends with the other elephants, and divert them off the track they are following now,” said Ramana. With forests areas fast depleting, elephants seeking food, come to villages and sometimes raid the fields. Some emerge from the jungle to take advantage of the paddy harvest, others have discovered a taste for local liquor, and drink everything they can lay their trunks on. From China to Indonesia, India to Vietnam, Asian elephants are in danger, their habitats shrinking fast, and their communities increasingly isolated.According to the 2005 national census, there are between 25,000 to 28,000 elephants in India, including 1,500 male tuskers of breeding age.Elephants are a protected and endangered species in India, with the country having nearly half of the world's 60,000 Asian elephants. But conservationists say the pachyderm population has fallen rapidly in recent years because of a loss of habitat caused by human encroachment in forest areas, leading to human-elephant conflicts. Ram Charan Teja's debut film Chirutha audio released today. Aditya released the album and it is being gossiped that it was sold out at around Rs 90 lakhs. Initially, when the Supreme were approached they didn't accept the deal for Rs 90 lakh assuming it to be risky. Then Aditya bagged that. Were there any negotiations or they have taken that for Rs 90 lakhs is not revealed officially! Audio business is always risky. Many audio companies bag the rights on prestige basis. Ram Charan, being the son of Chiranjeevi, boosted up the expectations and hence the rights were sold at that right. And for Chiranjeevi's film, the audio rights are being sold at around Rs 1.25 Cr.
