Apparently keeping in view the uncertainty over foreign industrial projects, the State Industries Department has decided to focus on tapping the domestic potential. In a twin strategy, the department wanted to encourage the existing major industries to go in for expansion and make them agree to promote their ancillary units in the State instead of importing the industrial components from outside. The department held two rounds of meetings with the top officials of defence establishments, Public Sector Undertakings and private players like Mahindra and Mahindra to obtain the volume of trade they do with the ancillary units.

The State Election Commission on Monday issued notification for conducting elections to 96 municipalities and 11 municipal corporations on September 24, thereby igniting election heat in the State after a gap of nearly 16 months.Announcing the schedule here, State Election Commissioner A.V.S Reddy said the receipt of nominations for ward members (in the case of municipalities) and corporators (in the case of corporations) would begin on September 1, with the publication of election notice in all the municipalities and corporations going to polls. The nominations would be received between 11 am and 3 pm till September 5. The scrutiny would be done on September 6. The last date for withdrawal of nominations would be September 9 and publication of list of contesting candidates would be done on the same day after 3 pm.

Hoarseness, the commonest voice disorder mostly results from abuse or overuse of voice like yelling or shouting due to rupture of microscopic vessels in vocal folds and a collection of blood in its layers leading to vocal polyps, he added. So far theses polyps were removed by micro laryngeal methods under general anesthesia. This method would cause side effects in high-risk groups like patients with heart and lungs problems due to the problem of cervical spine, he maintained.

The City Traffic Police has decided to be very tough on implementing ‘six school children in an Auto’ system with immediate effect. It has been decided not to allow more than six school children in an auto, as carrying more than six was extremely hazardous and dangerous. Mr. A. K. Expressing its sympathy towards demands for a separate Telangana state to be carved out of Andhra Pradesh, Government told the Rajya Sabha today that it will take an "appropriate decision at an appropriate time" on the matter.Replying to Supplementaries during Question Hour, Home Minister Shivraj Patil said the Centre has not received any resolution on Telegana from the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly. "The demand for Telengana has been there and the government has been sympathetic to the demand but we are not jumping to conclusion", Patil said observing that it was a complicated issue and the Centre was not insensitive to the demand made by the people. Opposing the formation of Telangana, TDP leader in the House Ravula Chandra Sekar Reddy said his party stood for all round development of the state and it should be consulted on the matter. All parties are free to express their view on the matter he said, adding, however that "government will not close its mind to the views expressed by parties that are close to us."

State committee of the Student Federation of India (SFI) has decided to boycott the college classes on August 24 throughout the State demanding the Government to review the ruling of the Supreme Court against reservations in private educational institutions, and legislate an Act to protect the reservation rights of SCs, STs and BCs. Mr. K Hari Kishore, State President and Mr. K Bhaskar, Vice President, said that the Supreme Court’s verdict would deleteriously affect the reservation rights of the students belonging to SC, ST and BC communities, especially in the higher level technical courses like Engineering, Medicine, Pharmacy, Management and Computer Courses. They pointed out that majority seats in these courses are available in private institutes, while there are a small number of seats in government colleges. Andhra Pradesh state government re-imposed the ban on the Maoists and their front organisations. The ban is being re-imposed after a hiatus of 13 months. The government has invoked the Andhra Pradesh Public Security Act to ban the organisations. The tough measure signals the start of another no-holds-barred war against the extremist outfit and the end of the peace moves. Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, who held an emergency meeting with home minister K. Jana Reddy, the director-general of police and other senior officials, also spoke with the Union home minister Shivraj Patil. A passport application receipt centre planned for the Old City has not yet been set up. Passport officials blame it on the city police for not providing the required manpower and space. Following the shifting of the regional passport office a few years ago to Secunderabad from Nampally, residents of Old City protested as they found it difficult to go all the way to the twin city for submitting applications. A Hyderabad based inspector of police was arrested by the Uppal Police of Cyberabad in connection with the murder of a real estate trader Navish Murthy allegedly by hired killers on July 15. According reliable sources, the inspector Vijay Singh, who recently got promotion from sub-inspector is presently attached to special investigation team (SIT) of the city police. Sources said that Vijay Singh buried the body of Navish Murhty in the kitchen of Ramanamurthy's house.
