Tuesday, July 31, 2007 | PV

Besides acting in films, Arjun is deeply passionate about photography. He is particularly fond of still photography. Taking pictures is something he has been doing for many years now.
I find it very hard to talk about my relationships…thats where the photography in me surfaces. It helps me to exteriorize my thoughts, Arjun adds that he takes photos only for himself and has no intention of publishing them or even showing them to anyone.
On the movie front, Arjun is extremely excited about being part of the forthcoming Dil Rajus Film directed by Bommarillu Bhaskar.

Chiranjeevi's Shankar dada Zindabad on the top
Tuesday, July 31, 2007 | PV

1. Shankardada Zindabad: The film made great opening collections like any other Chiranjeevis movie in all the centers. The talk of the film has come out as class. The masses are not that happy with this film and we have to see how far family audiences patronize it. As on date the film sits on position-1 in the Toppers list of the week.
2. Lakshyam: The film is still standing on its stand in position-2 unaltered. The collections o the film is pretty good but affected by the release of Shankardada Zindabad this week. Gopichand and Jagapathi Babus combination with Anushka factor clearly worked well for the film and it is in position-2 of the toppers list of the week.
3. Shivaji: The collections of this film were dropped drastically but still holding the box office in its own way. The mush hyped film is surviving only for the hype that it created before its release. Rajni factor is the only thing that is holding it in theaters even now. The film sits in position-3 of Toppers list of the week.
4. Toss: The collections of the film have come down and in many centers it is making only 35 percent of collections. Priyadarashini Rams style of making a film fast screenplay gave a different look for it. Upendra is the only salable factor among masses for this film. But weak narration made the film weak on a whole. The film sits on position-4 of the toppers list of the week.
5. Dubai Seenu: Although the collections of the film have come down, it is sustaining on the verge of toppers list of the week. Ravi Teja and Nayantara paired up in this film and Sreenu Vaitlas direction with comedy mixed with action made the film successful. It sits in position-5 of the toppers list of the week.

Left parties observe shutdown in Andhra’s Khammam district
Monday, July 30, 2007 | MP

Hyderabad/Khammam, July 29 (ANI): The Left parties are observing a day long shutdown in Khammam district of the state today to register their protest against the police firing on a protesting crowd, which claimed eight lives on Saturday.

Some Left leaders are expected to visit the district to take stock of the situation, even as the police have imposed prohibitory orders in the wake of the shutdown.

Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) are also likely to support the bandh. The State Government has already ordered an enquiry into the incident.

Eight persons were killed and several others injured in police firing at Mudigonda village in Khammam district of Andhra Pradesh after a protest rally of Left parties against the State Government’s land policy turned violent.

Protestors in the village started pelting stones on police, who retaliated first with a baton charge, and then with firing on the 1000-strong mob.

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) condemned the police firing, and called upon all its units across the country to protest against the “brutal police action.”

It said that the “genuine demands” of the people for house sites and land could not be suppressed by such “brutal display of force.”

The CPI (M) said in a statement that police resorted to “brutal” firing on people participating in a “peaceful rasta roko” as part of the bandh to protest police repression and the refusal of the government to concede their “genuine demands.”

The CPI (M), CPI and 195 mass organisations have been conducting a movement for house sites and land for the poor, since May 2 this year.

“Instead of discussing and settling the issues, the Congress government in Andhra Pradesh resorted to brutal attacks against the people. Hundreds of people were seriously injured in police lathicharges in different parts of the state and thousands were sent to jail,” the party said.

The Congress Government had promised distribution of surplus land to the landless poor. The state has so far distributed about 450,000 acres of land to about 300,000 beneficiaries. (ANI)

Andhra shutdown turns violent: Seven killed in police firing
Monday, July 30, 2007 | MP

Hyderabad, July 28 (ANI): At least seven persons have been killed and several others injured in police firing on Saturday in Khammam District in Andhra Pradesh after a protest rally of Left parties against the State Government’s land policy turned violent.

Protestors in Modugonda Village started pelting stones on police, who retaliated first with a baton charge, and then with firing on the 1000-strong mob.

The injured have been admitted to the District hospital. The State Government has already ordered an enquiry into the incident.

The day-long shutdown which is also being supported by the opposition Telegu Desam Party (TDP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) brought the entire State to a standstill.

Rail services were hit with protestors putting blockades on rail-tracks. Several express trains passing through the State were stopped at various places.

Bus services were also disrupted with reports of over 25 buses being damaged by angry mobs in various districts of the State.

Roads were deserted and business and shops remained closed, as activists of TDP took to the streets in Hyderabad, carrying placards.

"After the Y S Rajashekhar Government completed three years, it has given big companies like Reliance ten acres of land. What is the need for Rajashekhar Government to give ten acres to Infosys? This government is trying to sell land to earn profit," said senior BJP leader, Bhandaru Datatreya, who also accused the State Government of not distributing the land to the poor.

Opposition parties have been demanding that the government set up an independent body to oversee the land distribution process.

On Friday, the State Government held three rounds of talks with Left leaders to find an amicable solution, but failed to break the deadlock.

The Congress Government had promised distribution of surplus land to the landless poor. The state has so far distributed about 450,000 acres of land to about 300,000 beneficiaries. (ANI)

NTR used voice for a song in Yama Donga
Saturday, July 28, 2007 | PV

Chiranjeevi's Shankardada Zindabad is released and the multi stars affect in the film pleased many. Same is the case with Yamadonga where there is multi star factor with Mohan Babu, Mamatha Mohan Das, Rambha, Khushboo, Priyamani, Preeti Jingiani and others.Chiranjeevi used his voice in a song in Shankardada Zindabad and NTR used his voice for a song in Yama Donga. Chiranjeevi turned slimmer than before for Shankardada Zindabad. NTRs look is need less to describe. He reduced 26.5 kgs on a whole. Music director Devi Sri Prasad scored third time for Mega Stars film with SDZ. MM Keeravani also scored third film with NTR with Yama Donga.

Shankerdada Zindabad
Saturday, July 28, 2007 | PV

Music: Devi Sri Prasad.
Cinematography: Chota K. Naidu.
Direction: Prabhudeva.
Cast: Chiranjeevi, Srikanth, Karishma Kotak, Pawan Kalyan, Sada, Dilip Prabhavalkar, Allu Arjun (guest), Ravi Teja (guest), Kanta Rao, Rohit, Shayaji Shinde, Yana Gupta and others.
Dialogue: Paruchoori Brothers
>
It is a life time character for Chiranjeevi like it was for Sanjay Dutt, who caught the imagination of the entire nation simply playing that powerful message oriented role. But Chiranjeevis mega star image subdues a bit of that impact. But he manages it well and tried his best to look different from all the characters he played earlier. Srikanths role is like that of a side kick a la Shankar Dada MBBS. But an actors image, he built for himself playing some roles high pitch drama helped him keep to this positive image. He displays good time sense in dialogue delivery. And his role in this film weighs more than what he played in the previous film. Sayaji Shinde makes his role and dialogue delivery no different from other films. Others in the cast just managed themselves. Sada too appeared in a brief role. Raviteja, Allu Arjun, Prabhudeva and Nagendra Babu too add to the histrionic line, only to lend star cast glamour to gain at box office. Nagu Babu too lends his part in a brief role, adding credit to the film that all the three brothers and also their nephew Allu Arjun, a hot name these days, together appeared in one film. Music composer Devisri Prasad makes his presence also felt in the song he composed on Hyderabad Good Morning Hyderabad.

Kidnapped Satyam Computers executive rescued
Thursday, July 26, 2007 | MP

Hyderabad, July 25 (ANI): Satyam Computers General Managaer Vedula Satyanarayana was rescued by Andhra Police from Andhra Pradesh's Warrangal District, a day after he was kidnapped by unknown people.

On Tuesday,Satyanarayana (40) went missing after dropping his two daughtrers - Diksha (6 years) and Rishita (4) - at Geetanjali Devashray School at Sarojini Devi Road. As usual, he asked his car driver to park the car nearby and crossed the road to drop the children at the school.

When he did not return, his driver, called up Satyanarayana’s wife Kiranmayee, who later lodged a complaint at Gopalpuram police station. The police registered a case under Section 354 (kidnapping) and took up investigations.

Their inquiries with the auto-drivers near the school provided the first clues. Auto-drivers told the police that they saw him being bundled into an Indica car by three persons.

Before lodging the complaint, Kiranmayee had made a call to her husband to find his whereabouts. Though he had told her that he was attending an urgent meeting at his office, the police found, with the help of the mobile company, that the call was received on Satyanarayana’s cell somewhere near Bhongir in Nalgonda District.

Police said no one reported to have witnessed the kidnapping.

Gopalpuram Division Assistant Commissioner of Police YV Ramana said the main accused Venkanna and three others involved in the kidnapping were arrested.

According to police sources, they tracked the case by tracking down a ransom call that Satyanarayana’s family received late in the evening.

Tracing the location to Nekkonda in Warangal district, local police teams rushed and surrounded a house where he was being held by the kidnappers. The police rescued him and took the four persons, including the main accused, into custody. (ANI)

Actress Priyamani likes to sing her own songs
Wednesday, July 25, 2007 | PV

Priyamani is going over active in several ways as per scuttlebutt. Already we heard a gossip about her comments on Anushka saying that she is not a perfect Yoga practitioner as she looks fat and plump.
On the other hand she is also saying that she likes to sing her own songs in her films. Why is she doing all this? The former one might be due to ignorance or lack of balance in speech, if that is true. Such comments would certainly keep her away from main league if repeats again.

We can't add only spice without salt: Anushka
Wednesday, July 25, 2007 | PV

Anushka made chitchat on television channel yesterday. She said that she wept for while watching the plight of Gopichand in the film Lakshyam. She said she was moved by that scene. Interestingly, Anuskha spoke in very good Telugu on par with native Telugu speaker while saying that.. Saying about her exposing and performance aspects she said, We cannot add only spice without salt to a dish with the idea to make it spicier. At the same time we cannot add only salt without spice. So, I feel it should be a right mix of everything. I give preference for the roles those balance me with performance and glamour look. A good performance oriented role certainly elevates the image of an actress.

Wednesday, July 25, 2007 | MP

Hyderabad, July 24 (ANI): Andhra Pradesh Assembly Speaker K R Suresh Reddy on Tuesday suspended all Telugu Desam Party (TDP) members for obstructing the proceedings of the Assembly.

Disallowing the TDP demand, Reddy urged party legislators to return to their seats. This forced Agriculture Minister N Raghuveera Reddy, substituting for Legislative Affairs Minister K Rosaiah to move a resolution for their suspension. The resolution was adopted by a voice vote.

Later, suspended members walked out of the House.

Hero Nagarjuna respects multi star films
Tuesday, July 24, 2007 | PV

Nagarjuan also changed his mind with respect to multi star films. Once he said that multi star films in Tollywood are far from reality due to budgetary constraints and the expectations of fans.
Once he said, The story of such films should be very strong. No one should be over shadowed by other. That is very difficult to get such script. But he is now acting in Vishnus next film as per the grapevine. It is known that Dhee became successful for three factors-Sri Hari, Brahmanandam and Sreenu Vaitlas narration. So Sri Hari, the special character in the film played a very vital role in the success of it.

Vishnu Vardhan Manchu to act in Comedy film
Tuesday, July 24, 2007 | PV

Vishnu Vardhan Manchu seems to have chosen his comfortable path now. He acted in the film Dhee with subtle humor in his role. Although he played many action packed roles before, none could survive at the box office. Its only Dhee that brought him fame and success. Now it is said that he is acting in the direction of P Vasu, a remake of Bruce Almighty, in which Nagarjuna is playing the role of God. The Vishnu going to play in Vasus direction is the one played by Jim Carrey in Bruce Almighty. The character is packed with full dose comedy and we have to see how Vishnu enacts that. Talking about the trivial, it is observed that Vishnu reduced a little when he appeared for the launching of Think Smart Animation company. If he continues the same reduction, we may see an active and athletic Vishnu who can better justify the role given to him.

Secret: Comedian Sunil growing day by day
Tuesday, July 24, 2007 | PV

With the success of Sunil as comedian and hero, the film institute, which produced him, is taking all the pride. He received instruction in acting in Akkineni Film Institute. Earlier a film Institute run by Devdas Kanakala was more reputed than all the institutes in Hyderabad. The institute too produced a few talented artistes, including comedy hero Rajendra Prasad. Now this institute is almost forgotten. Along with Akkineni Film Institute, there is one more place to get trained in acting and that is Madhu Film Institute. But this is yet to make its mark. Of all, Akkineni Film Institute is excelling. This has produced Shashank, a hero of Anukokunda Oka Roju and Siddarth of Tapana fame. The need for such training is growing day by day in Telugu Film Industry.

"Godavari" Kamalini and Sumanth relationship
Tuesday, July 24, 2007 | PV

Rumor has it that the rock steady relationship between Godvari heroine Kamalini Mukherji and her beau Sumanth is presently going through a very rough patch. After moving together for couple of years, Sumanth and Kamalini seem headed for splits Ville. While the real reason of the split is still not clear, it is being speculated that the two lovers have had too much of each other and that love has begun to evaporate from their relationship. Friends close to the couple are quoted that Sumanth has not denied in the past that his relation with Kamalini has been through rough patches over the year. But this time, the friction between the lovers seems a tad too serious. Earlier Sumanth and Kamalini would often attend the social dos and dinners together. But of late, things have changed. Poor Sumanth is often spotted alone.

Jr NTR Yamadonga is a good conversationalist
Tuesday, July 24, 2007 | PV

Along with acting, Jr. NTR is endowed with another merit: gift of the gab. He is a good conversationalist.
He is proved to be at his best in the company of gals. Any hero finds it difficult to manage, when he is sandwiched between two heroines – nay not in a film- but on sets. Jr.NTR strikes amazing balance when he fits into such an occasion.
He needed to interact with two heroines- Priyamani and Mamata Mohan Das- on the sets of Yamadonga. He became equally intimate with two gals.
He paid similar attention to the duo. Now each gal is under the impression that she is really close to NTR. Did he inherit this ability from his father or grandfather?

Shankardada Zindabad is a multistarrer movie
Friday, July 20, 2007 | PV

Multi-star films are common in Bollywood but far from reality in todays Tollywood. Although there were such films in later 70s, the trend of single hero worship in single film has come inti existence. When asked about the same, Chiranjeevi once said that multi star films will be very expensive to make. When asked Chiranjeevi about his combination with Pawan Kalyan, he said that Pawan is also a star and he has to paid up to his level and the budget grows up heavily. So, Chiranjeevi also isnot open to multi star film without good money returns. Now that combination is worked out in Shankardada Zindabad. Official figures are not out about the remuneration given to Pawan Kalyan for this film, but sources say that it ran very big. Well, Pawan played only a guest role in the film. Multi star trend has started with the films like Lakshyam in which Gopichand and Jagapathi Babu worked together. Same is the case with 'Toss' where Raja and Upendra joined together.

Dairy farmers peturbed over rising milk prices, Reliance Retail moves into dairy sector
Wednesday, July 18, 2007 | MP

Kolkata/Hyderabad, July 17 (ANI): The price of milk may have gone up to around Rs 3 per litre across India in the last year, but dairy farmers are yet to benefit from it.

According to National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) figures, the procurement price for cow milk has increased by only 0.7 percent during the nine months from September 2006 to May 2007. From Rs 9.54 per litre in September 2006, the price increased to Rs 10.10 on April this year and then declined to Rs 9.61 in May.

However, procurement price for buffalo milk increased by 5.6 percent during the same period, from Rs 12.86 in September 2006 to Rs 13.58 on May 2007, mainly because buffalo milk is used to make skimmed milk powder (SMP). Prices of cattle feed and other inputs have increased, making it more difficult for the farmers.

Dairy officials were quoted by the Financial Express as saying that rising SMP prices have forced dairies to increase price at least three times in last one year. Exports of SMP have also helped push up local prices.

SMP now costs Rs 140 per kg and upwards, and contributes to 20 percent of the price increase of milk.

Meanwhile, Reliance Retail has decided to venture into dairy products.

After fresh vegetables, fruits and fast moving consumer goods products, Reliance Retail has stepped into the dairy products sector with a national ‘pilot’ launch of its liquid milk (family milk segment) in Hyderabad.

Available across 43 Reliance Fresh stores in Andhra Pradesh, the liquid milk branded Reliance Dairy Pure has a launch price of Rs 9 for half-a-litre packet.

Reliance Retail is at present procuring 10,000 litres per day at its procurement centre in Atmakur in Nellore district. The packaging, which is outsourced, is being done at Vikarabad in Ranga Reddy district.
The national plans of Reliance Retail include launching 3 variants of liquid milk — family milk, low fat and whole milk. It would also diversify into a range of value-added dairy products.

Moreover, Reliance is planning to roll out the liquid milk brands across the country in a phased manner. It is also firming up plans to enter the cheese-making sector. (ANI)

Priyamani grabbing the tollywood opportunities
Wednesday, July 18, 2007 | PV

Observes in Tollywood and Kollywood are saying that Priyamani is grabbing the opportunities those will be in tune with that of Sneha. Sneha has been regarded as heroine for family audiences and only with sari clad look. She hardly looks good in western wear.
Same is the case with Priyamani now. She was shot to fame with the film Pellaina Koththalo and again appeared in Toss. She looks dark and also appears beautiful when smiles like Sneha.Sneha has become obsolete, say some. She is now considered less and only small banner films are coming her way. So her career is apparently over.

So, Chirutha is not a remake or remake of that German film but some scenes are being inspired from that. The title of that German film is not revealed by anyone.

Euphoria lacking ahead of 4th World Military Games in Hyderabad
Sunday, July 8, 2007 | MP

By Vikram Vishal

Hyderabad, July 7 (ANI): The stage for the Fourth World Military Games to be held in the twin city of Hyderabad- Secunderabad from October 14 to 21 seems to be all set but the mega event may not attract many spectators, due to lack of publicity and general awareness about the games here.

With even less than 100 days to go for the games, which is being termed as the second biggest sporting event after the Olympic games, there is not a single promotional hoarding visible in the city.

Organisers have done well to make the event, which is being hosted outside Europe for the first time, a successful one. But they seem to be lagging behind as far as promotion is concerned in Hyderabad and Secunderabad.

The organisers of the event had recently launched marathon championship in the national capital, Delhi, and had also held other such promotional campaigns in different parts of the country to evoke awareness about the games.

However, it seems to have not generated enough enthusiasm, as it should be visible before the beginning of an international event.

The officer-in-charge (Publicity and Media) Colonel Sanjay Khanna also appeared a little off guard on this front, and said that the media should also help in promoting the event.

"Yes there are no promotional hoardings near the sports village as yet. But the media should also come forward to promote it and make people aware of this event," he said, when asked as to why no such advertisement is visible around the venues and in and around the twin city.

Besides publicity, the organisers have been able to score points over the facilities and infrastructure front as the venues that would host various disciplines of the games are already in place.

The athletics stadium at the Gachibowli Complex with 27000 seating capacity will be hosting the opening and the closing ceremonies of the games.

A total of 13 disciplines will be held here, with hockey and kabaddi being scrapped due to "lack of participation". However, these two sports will be organised only for demonstration.

Polo will be held as an exhibition discipline.

Out of 127 members of the Conseil International du Sport Militaire (CISM) or International Military Sports Council, 78 countries have confirmed their participation and around 5100 sportsmen are going to participate in this year's games. (ANI)

The audio is getting huge applause all over and majority are saying that the songs are trendy and in tune with the Chirus image.

Chiranjeevi in politics is hoax
Friday, July 6, 2007 | PV

The reports that Megastar Chiranjeevi would lead the proposed Third Front of BCs, SCs and STs in the State created a sensation in the State politics, but within 24 hours, they turned out to be a mere hoax, as the leaders were seriously divided over his entry into the Front. In fact, the news was leaked by a section of BC leaders who participated in the Front meeting. The meeting indeed discussed the proposal to invite Chiranjeevi into the mainstream politics to lead the Front, since it would gain tremendous support from the people of all sections. However, a section of SC leaders strongly opposed the proposal on the ground that if Chiranjeevi takes the lead, the Front would get an entirely different image, since he is considered to be above the caste and moreover, he would not be interested in confining himself to one particular caste.

US to open consulate in Hyderabad
Wednesday, July 4, 2007 | MP

Hyderabad, July 3 (ANI): The United States will open its fourth consulate in India in Hyderabad by the end of 2008, US ambassador David C. Mulford said here on Tuesday.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to this effect has been signed between the Andhra Pradesh Government and American authorities.

The state has offered a 10-acre site to the US authorities for a permanent location of its Consulate in the IT-hub, which will become the fourth Indian city to have it after Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai

"We obviously have a very significant demand on us for consulate services in India and everybody knows that. We took a decision on how do we relieve some pressure on our system by opening a new location where we could conduct consular business and public outreach business and be in a very strategically important place in India,” Mulford said.

He added that they would now proceed with the planning, as they already have finance for it. “We will work to a time table where we hope to complete the renovation at the new location and to open for business sometime in late 2008," he said.

The establishment of the Consulate meets a long-pending demand of the state as it accounts for highest number of IT professionals and students in the US.

"Today is a big day for us because the association of Indians with the United States has been quite significant and that too the association of citizens of Andhra Pradesh has been more significant," said Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy.

US President George W Bush had announced plans for setting up a consulate in Hyderabad during his visit to the city in March last year.

Of more than 80,000 Indian students pursuing higher education in the United States, 50,000 are from Andhra Pradesh. (ANI)
