Huge turnout in Panchayat Poll

A huge turnout was registered for the local body polls held in the Ongole district. A large number of voters queued up since morning at the 2,552 polling booths to exercise their franchise.
According to official sources, 70 to 75 per cent of polling was registered in the district. Women voters enthusiastically participated in voting. In the Naxalite affected Markapuram division, a large number of voters exercised their franchise ignoring Maoists’ poll boycott call. The district recorded 18 per cent of polling by 9 am, 30 by 11 am, 50 per cent by 1 pm and by 3 pm, 60 per cent of voters exercised their franchise. In some mandals, voters waited in rain to cast their vote.

PCC president K. Keshava Rao participated in the road show in several places in Khammam. Speaking on the occasion, he said that the Congress government was working for rural development. He said that the Congress would fulfill the aspirations of the people. He said that the government has been identifying the needs of the people and trying to solve them. He said that free power to the farm sector was being continued after polls and refuted allegations made by CPM leader B.V. Raghavulu.

Known as the American Telugu Association, this is the ninth time the gathering is taking place. It is scheduled to take place from june 30 to july 2nd. Though it is meant for a short span, the meet is expected to provide the non resident indians three days of fun and frolic with the indian stars and musicians touted to be giving them some great evenings. Navdeep who's been facing a string of flops is getting ready to put his film to test on july 7th. Titled Seetakokachiluka the film will be released simultaneously in tamil and telugu on the same day. Sheela is the debutant but doesn't look like one considering the generous display of skin show in photographs and trailors. Mani Sarma is the highlight of the film says the producer. Supposed to be revolving around teen infatuation.

The latest news doing the rounds in film nagar is Balakrishna heard a story from Dance master turned Director Lawrence and said okay and he might work in it after Lawrence completes his tamil film Muni. But Lawrence is also committed to doing Nagarjuna's Don. Yuvarathna Balakrishna is probably one hero who has his callsheets full for the next couple of years despite all his recent films flopping. The star has a great charisma and hold over his fans and the audiences.

Nationalwide campaign on Vedic dharma

With instances of religious conversions on the rise in the country, Visakhapatnam-based Sri Swarupanandendra Swami of Sri Sarada Peetham has launched a nationwide campaign to mobilise the support of Hindu seers to protect Vedic dharma.Swarupanandendra Swami will hold a series of meetings with Hindu religious scholars and Sankaracharyas for two days from Friday in New Delhi to chalk out a strategy to stop Hindus from converting to other religions. During his stay in New Delhi he is scheduled to meet, among others, Swami Jayendrananda Maharaj and Swami Prabhavananda Maharaj.

Government to appeal The Da Vinci Code order

The State government decided to move a division bench of the High Court against the order of a single judge striking down a government order prohibiting screening of the controversial movie The Da Vinci Code. According to sources the government plans to appeal after receiving a copy of the full judgement. Justice G. Raghuram of the AP High Court had struck down an order by the government prohibiting exhibition of the film on Wednesday. But The Da Vinci Code’s distributor is not discouraged.

Panchayat poll to continue as schedule

A division bench of the AP High Court permitted the panchayat elections to continue as scheduled. The bench declared that in view of the law laid down by the apex court in a catena of decisions, it had no choice other than to permit the election process to go on even though the bench had no occasion to peruse the order passed by the single judge.The bench stayed the June 20 order of Justice P.S. Narayana who had struck down the election notification saying that the electoral rolls were faulty. The bench directed the writ appeals to be posted on June 27 for further hearing. Our correspondents report that immediately after the order, candidates throughout the State restarted their campaign for the elections scheduled for June 28 and July 2. The Congress announced that it would start its campaign on Friday.The State Election Commission (SEC) announced that it would conduct the elections as scheduled. State Election Commissioner A.V.S. Reddy said four helicopters would be used to supply electoral material and security in remote and inaccessible areas of the State.

Apex court strikes down panchayat poll notification

Justice P.S. Narayana of the Andhra Pradesh High Court struck down the election notification for elections to local bodies. The judge said that the voters list for the panchayat and mandal parishad territorial committee (MPTC) elections were not prepared in accordance with the Constitution and the rules laid down in the Panchayat Raj Act. The judge declared that the State Election Commission had abrogated its Constitutional duties and powers to the State government in preparing voters’ list. He directed that the voters list be prepared afresh. The judge passed the orders on a batch of writ petitions challenging the addition and deletion of voters and reconstitution and reorganisation of MPTC constituencies.The State Election Commission had begun the process of elections to panchayats, mandal and zilla parishad territorial committees by issuing the notification on June 10. According to this schedule, elections were to be held on June 28 and July 2.

Vishnu busy with Taxi no.9211

It has been a long time since Vishnu's films hit the marquee. It is almost a year since Suryam released and for any actor it is a long gap. To make for the loss all his films will be ready for release soon. Out of the three, two are decked to hit the screen. The first is Dee directed by Srinu Vytla and the second is Astram directed by Suresh Krishna. Meanwhile Taxi no 9211 is being remade and the father son duo are might busy trying to wrap it up as soon as possible. Sources say Astram might release this month and Dee in july. Care should be taken so that the result of the film doesn't affect the prospects of the other one due.

New telugu movie release dates postponed

Nandanavanam, Seetaramudu, Something Something have been postponed to other dates due to inevitable reasons. They were supposed to release on june 9th. However Rajendra Prasad starrer Iddhara Atthala Muddula Alludu, Prakash Raj and Jyothika starrer Patala Bhairavudu and Jayadev will come out tomorrow. None of the films look interesting however let's watch their performance at the Box office.

Government designed new project "21st Century Gurukulam"

Inspired by the ancient practice of gurukulam, the Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education designed a new concept, “21st Century Gurukulam” to benefit the rural youth and infuse competitive spirit among them. Under the scheme, two graduates from each mandal would be selected through a mandal level test. They will be given intensive in-house training for one year to face various competitive exams like UPSC, APPSC and entrance exams to professional courses like GATE, IIT and others.
Around 100 to 300 students will get training at each of the 21st Century Gurukulam centers. Initially, the APSCHE had identified six universities — Andhra University, Osmania University, Sri Venkateswara University, JNTU, Dravidian University and Padmavathi Mahila University to introduce the concept. “Given a chance, the rural students will excel in every competitive field. Hence we will give them a chance,” said Prof. K.C. Reddy. The Andhra University has already identified three acres land at MVP Colony in the city to set up such centre to train students selected under this unique concept.

Future IT destination will be Warangal

The Andhra Pradesh government directed the Warangal district administration to send a detailed proposal to turn the city into a major information technology hub in the region. The proposed plan to turn the city into an IT hub includes setting up of IT parks at prime vacant land near Sridevi Theatre, and in Madikonda, where two US-based IT firms have already procured land and are in the process of setting up of their software development centres.
Warangal joint collector Syed Omer Jaleel said to press that there would be a high-level meeting in Hitech city in Hyderabad to discuss the proposal to make a second IT hub in the region next only to Hyderabad.
The soon-to-be-held meet would discuss ways to project Warangal as a IT hub to national and international IT companies to set up their shops and create employment opportunities for youth. Some top companies, including Reliance Infocom, are showing keen interest in setting up its IT park in this historic city of the Kakatiyas.

72k children to take Aksharabhyasam in East Godavari district on June 16th

Nearly 72,000 children who have completed five years are going to take Aksharabhyasam at 3,600 primary and upper primary schools on June 16 in East Godavari district. As part of the Badi Bata programme being held from June 1 to 16, the district administration is making efforts to ensure that a large number of children in the age group of five to 15 years are enrolled in residential bridge schools, government and government-aided schools. In all, 14,199 children in the age group of nine to 14 years have been identified in the district to be out-of-school. As part of the Badi Bata programme, efforts are on to bring about awareness on the importance of education to parents, children and elders in villages.

TTD Executive Officer A.P.V.N. Sharma directed the officials to set up more Sudarshan counters in Tirupati and Tirumala as part of arrangements for the annual Brahmotsav in Tirumala from September 25.
Reviewing the arrangements with the officials at Annamaiah Bhavan in Tirumala , he said that the number of Sudarshan token counters should be increased in view of the heavy rush during the Brahmotsav.Priority would be given for sanitation, he said, and directed the health officials to take precautionary measures. Primary health centres would be established to provide health care to visiting pilgrims, the EO said, adding that elaborate arrangements would be made to organise the event in a more colourful fashion this year.

Panchayat poll: Notification to be issued before 12

The State Election Commission (SEC) told the AP High Court that notification for panchayat elections had to be issued before June 12 if it had to keep up the “constitutional obligation” of completing the poll process before July 23, the deadline for new local bodies.The AP High Court had on Monday wanted to know from the State Election Commission the date of notification for the panchayat elections. State Election Commissioner A.V.S. Reddy convened a meeting of representatives of all political parties to discuss the notification and other issues in the wake of the HC directive. Once the poll notification is issued, the code of conduct will come into effect and the Congress government will be barred from making any new decisions or announcing any sops.

Secunderabad 200 years: CM Y.S.Rajasekhar Reddy inaugurated the celebrations

Celebrations to mark the 200th anniversary of Secunderabad begin today evening with a carnival. Chief Minister Y.S.Rajasekhar Reddy inaugurated the celebrations.
The Nizam on June 3, 1806, had issued a farmaan to the British regiment here, giving them land beyond Hussainsagar.Secunderabad, named after the Nizam Sikander Jah, began as a cantonment and has vastly expanded since.
While Secunderabadis have planned their own celebrations, the government has organised nine-day long festivities to mark the founding of the city. A pylon marking the event inaugurated near Buddha Bhavan, close to Hussainsagar. The carnival started from the pylon and wind its way through Ranigunj, Paradise circle, Patny centre to end up at Parade Grounds. Three Chetak helicopters of the Indian Air Force petals on the participants.

Raviteja "Vikramarkudu" music released

Raviteja starrer Vikramarkudu audio was released. K Raghavendra Rao inaugurated the audio and handed over the first one to YVS Chowdhary. The film is directed by Rajamouli and is produced by ML Kumar Chowdhary. Keeravani who scored music said that Raviteja shines in the film and dominated the movie usually which is the domain of the director.
