Rajashekar would join in Congress ??

Hero Raja Sekhar is going to join Congress shortly. He met Rajasekhar Reddy to invite him for the opening of the remake of Malayalam hit 'Lion' as 'Yevadaithey Naakenti' in Telugu. Raja Sekhar bought the dubbing rights and co-producing with Madhukar Reddy and Rajendar Reddy. V. Samudra would be the director of the film.Well, now the reliable sources say that Rajasekhar is joining in Congress. It seems that he conveyed saying that he was very much impressed by YSR's government. Let us see if this grapevine comes true.

Kazipet youngster ends life in Germany railway track

A 26-year-old Indian engineering student, P Ramesh Babu, a native of Kazipet near Warangal, died under mysterious conditions in Germany a week ago. Ramesh Babu was studying masters degree in engineering in Siegen University in Bucken city in Germany. After completing his B.Tech from the Kamala Institute of Technology and Science in Huzurabad in Karimnagar district in 2001, Ramesh Babu moved to Germany in 2003 for M.Tech.
His dead body was found on the railway tracks in the city of Bucken on April 21. The railway and police authorities in Germany declared that Ramesh Babu was killed in an accident. The case was registered as an accidental death on the railway tracks. But earlier reports from the victim’s friends in Germany indicated that he had committed suicide after a broken love affair with a local girl.
Meanwhile, the parents of Ramesh Babu alleged that their son was murdered by the Germans, who could not tolerate his love for a local girl. They called for a thorough inquiry into the suspicious death of their son. The victim’s father Pesari Yellaiah and mother Komuramma, residents of Vidyanagar area in Kazipet town, strongly contend that their son was not one who would commit suicide.
His friends and other NRIs in Germany contributed Rs 2.5 lakh for shifting of the body to India. The body is expected to arrive in the city by late on Saturday night.

Hyderabad Public School lease extended

The State Cabinet decided to extend the lease period of Hyderabad Public School, Begumpet, by 48 years. The current lease period will lapse on June 15, 2006, and it would be extended up to June 14, 2054, at a nominal rent of Rs 1 per month, Minister for Information Md Shabbir Ali told mediapersons after the Cabinet meeting on Saturday. The Cabinet also decided to extend the lease period of 24.67 acres of land at Exhibition Grounds at Nampally, being managed by Exhibition Society of Hyderabad, by 50 years.
“Now, the Society has approached the State government with a proposal to construct permanent stalls on the lines of Pragati Maidan in New Delhi. The Cabinet has agreed to the proposal and decided to extend the lease period by 50 years so that banks could give loans to the society to construct permanent stalls,” he said.

Panchayat polls in June

The elections to local bodies — zilla parishads, mandal parishads and gram panchayats — in all probability will be held in the third week of June. The State Cabinet, which met in Hyderabad, is understood to have decided to write to the State Election Commission expressing its preparedness to go for the elections. Notification to that effect is expected to be issued in the first week of June, 15 days before the polling. Initially, elections to mandal and zilla parishads would be held on party basis; which will be followed by gram panchayat elections on non-party basis. According to sources, Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy observed that the time was ripe to conduct the local body elections. He reportedly expressed confidence that the ruling party would be in an advantageous position, as the people’s response was encouraging as was evident from the just concluded Prajapatham.
The second round of Prajapatham, coupled with Indiramma, would begin on May 8 and it would definitely give an edge to the Congress. “The weaker sections housing programme and distribution of pensions will be a major factor in turning the electorate in favour of the government,” the Chief Minister is learnt to have said.
When a couple of ministers suggested extension of the deadline for fixing of capacitors by farmers by one month, as nearly 50 per cent of farmers were yet to fulfil the obligation, the Chief Minister reportedly turned it down, saying the farmers should be convinced to install the capacitors.

Government told to solve Jr doctors’ problems

A division bench of the AP High Court on expressed concern that the grievances of junior doctors had not been redressed and directed the State government to come up with a concrete proposal for creating a permanent mechanism to solve the problems of the doctors.
The bench was dealing with a public interest litigation filed by Dr Venkat Rao, challenging the recent strike call given by the AP Junior Doctors Association. The bench directed advocate-general C.V.Mohan Reddy to work out a solution by continuing the process of consultation between the doctors and the government that was initiated earlier. The bench observed that doctors are professionals who can’t be treated like other civil servants and can’t be compelled to abstain from work. Dr Raghuram Reddy who appeared on behalf of the doctors told the court that their demands were pending for six years. The bench said that it could not solve all the problems but it would certainly give a hearing on June 8.

Thanking the people for the Congress party’s victory in Visakha-1 by-election, the Chief Minister Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy claimed that the people have reposed faith in the ruling party seeing the last two years performance in the state. “Our enthusiasm has doubled with this victory”, he added. Congress candidate Mr. Dronamraju Srinivas, son of late Dronamraju Satyanarayana, has defeated his nearest rival Mr. S.A. Rahman of TDP by a margin of 14,150 votes. Mr. Srinivas was polled 34,866 votes, while Mr. Rahman has received 20,716 votes. All the 14 candidates, including BJP candidate, who have contested the by-elections have lost their deposits.Talking to newsmen at secretariat, Dr. Rajasekhara Reddy remarked that the Congress party has won the Visakha-1 by-election with a thumping majority in spite of low voting percentage i.e. 44 per cent polling and Gangavaram port incident. In spite of `all gimmicks’ played by the opposition TDP, people have not believed it, and have shown their confidence on Mrs. Sonia Gandhi’s leadership and the Congress party. Besides, the local cadre was also strengthened under the leadership of APCC President Mr. K. Keshava Rao, he added.

Rs 20 lakh stolen from Bank

Thieves walked away with Rs 20 lakh from the Hyderabad Dilsukhnagar branch of the SBH in Moosarambagh. The police is confident of a breakthrough because the thieves were filmed by four CCTV cameras in the bank premises.The thieves stole the cash from the table of the bank reserve counter in-charge G. Kamalavathi at 10.45 am. The thieves had to pass three doors to get to the table, and this is leading the police to suspect connivance of some of the bank staff.The thieves put four packs of Rs 500 bundles into a bag and walked away, CCTV recordings in the bank showed. Each bundle of Rs 500 notes is worth Rs 50,000; there are 10 bundles in each pack. They then walked past the two security guards posted at the entrance.

Karunya loses the crown

Hyderabad lad N.C. Karunya, widely seen as the favourite, lost the Sony's Indian Idol crown to Sandip Acharya on Saturday. Sandip walked away with a Maruti Baleno and a Rs 1 crore contract with Sony BMG.
The three-member jury comprising Sonu Nigam, Farah Khan and Anu Mallick declared Sandip as Indian Idol-2 in the presence of celebrity guest Kajol. The result was an upset as Karunya was easily the pre-event favourite. The Indian Idol-1, Abhijeet Sawant, had told IANS before the show: “I must say if Karunya loses I’ll be disappointed.” The verdict disappointed fans of the 19-year-old BE III year student here. However, the dice seemed to be loaded against him. Sony Entertainment Television, for example, advertised the contest in North India — Acharya is from Bikaner, Rajasthan — but had ignored the South.

IIT team to help Hyderabad master plan

Urban development experts from IIT Kharagpur will help Hyderabad Urban Development Aurhtority (HUDA) in preparing a master plan for the core area in the twin cities. A core area is one that is already developed than its surroundings. In this case, the twin cities within the MCH limits form the core area. The State government has entrusted the IIT team the task of helping Huda prepare a plan for the twin cities in relation to the planned and projected development in surrounding municipalities including the Outer Ring Road and satellite townships.An IIT team led by Dr U.K. Banerjee, head of the department of architecture and regional planning, will complete the study in four months. The team will study the demographic and resource analysis besides the existing “density distribution gradient” pertaining to the population per square kilometre or even acre. The team will also project how much increased DDG can the core area hold in case of Greater Hyderabad.

Suridu murder case: suspects identified

Special teams probing into the killing of former MLA and factionist K. Suryapratap Reddy alias Sooreedu have found that one Parthasarathy Reddy an associate of Congress leader B. Narayana Reddy was injured in the firing by gunman Mallikarjuna. Police also identified nine others including Narayana Reddy’s son B. Pratap Reddy and Kallur Pratap Reddy as suspects in Tuesday’s murder at the Tadipatri railway station.
The factionists are operating in Hyderabad as well, according to police top brass. “Rayalaseema factionists are operating Mafia-style. Now they are involved in land deals in and around Hyderabad. This is a serious problem and has to be dealt with immediately,” a senior police official said.
Home Minister K. Jana Reddy assured that the killers would be nabbed by Thursday. “We have solid clues about the killers and will nab them soon. No one will be spared,” Jana Reddy said. He said that the case was being reviewed by senior cops.
Talking about Tuesday’s murder, Director General of Police Swaranjit Sen said, “When the gunman opened fire on those attacking the former MLA, one of the killers sustained bullet injuries. He may have been admitted into any of the hospitals. We are trying to trace him.”

Major accident at City outskirts

A drunken driver rammed a jam-packed school bus of the Adarsha Vidyalaya on to a parked APSRTC bus at Aramghar crossroads in Shivarampally on Monday morning, injuring 11 students and six others. Injured kids, who were admitted to the Raghavendra Hospital, were discharged after being given treatment. One of the students, Sandeep Reddy, suffered a serious injury. There were 70-odd students in the bus when the mishap occurred. M. Madhusudhan Rao, 42, the man behind the wheel, was a lorry driver roped in to replace the regular driver who was absent. Madhusu-dhan Rao drove straight on to an RTC bus, triggering a series of collisions.
Though the bus was full of students from kindergarten to class V, the driver stepped on the accelerator and did not cut speed even after teachers pleaded with him to go slow.
Police arrested Madhusu-dhan Rao and also booked a negligence case against the principal-cum-owner, Shr-avan Kumar. Angry parents thrashed the principal and he was admitted to the nearby Relief Hospital.

Intermediate results in April third week

The Board of Intermediate Examinations officials,pointed out that time would not be sufficient for students who had to appear for the advance supplementary if the results are delayed. BIE has been making preparations to release the results of second year intermediate in the third week of April. While Board officials are all set to release the first year results by April 17, they are confident that the second year results could be out one week later. The officials are only waiting for the Higher Education Minister Pinnamaneni Venkateswara Rao to take a decision on the issue. Earlier, the minister had announced that inter second year results would be released only after the Eamcet exam scheduled to be held on May 4 mainly to ensure that the examination result would have no impact on students’ performance in Eamcet.

Polavaram project: Tribals moved a petition in the apex court

Mr B.D. Sharma and some affected tribals have moved a petition in the apex court challenging the construction of the Indira Sagar (Polavaram) multi-purpose irrigation project by Andhra Pradesh.
The petition has been listed for hearing today (Monday). “The project will have an adverse effect in the form of displacing about 1,95,357 persons from 48,211 families at full reservoir level besides submerging seven villagers in Orissa, 16 in Chhattisgarh and 276 in the State of AP,” the petition stated.
Besides violating various laws, the petition has alleged lack of resettlement policy to compensate the affected families. “The project was started without providing rehabilitation and resettlement to the affected families. The constitutional provision provides the State to consult the National Commission for SCs and the National Commission for STs for all major policy matters affecting them was not followed especially when 48.6 per cent of the project affected families are STs and around 10 per cent SCs,” the petition alleged.

Kurnool:Chandrababu Naidu state wide tour

The former chief minister Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu began a State-wide tour to prepare the TD cadre for the forthcoming local body elections through his visit to Kurnool district. Addressing a public meeting at Banaganapalle as part of his tour, the former chief minister alleged that the Congressmen were reaping the benefits of the measures he had taken as the Chief Minister. “The Congressmen are wasting money that accrued from the additional revenue that resulted from the steps that were taken when we were in power,” he said. Farmers are still committing suicide

Farmers are still committing suicide two years after the Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy government took over in Andhra Pradesh.The State government has confirmed that the death count between May 14, 2004, when the Congress came to power, and March 31 this year stood at 1,261. Union agriculture minister Sharad Pawar had told Parliament during the recent Budget Session that the figure was 2,000. The Opposition Telugu Desam has put the death toll of farmers at 3,056.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has recommended that foreign nationals coming to Andhra Pradesh take precautions to protect themselves from the Aedes aegypti mosquito that spreads the Chikungunya virus. The WHO has recommended that individuals of foreign origin protect themselves by wearing clothing that minimises skin exposure and applying insect repellents to exposed skin. It did not recommended special restrictions on travel or trade from the affected regions, including States like Orissa and Maharashtra.
The Chikungunya virus causes high fever accompanied by intense pain in the joints. The fever ebbs in a week with antibiotics, but the joint pains are known to last for a month. The virus erupted suddenly about three months ago, and its spread has reached epidemic proportions in some regions of the State. The Aedes aegypti mosquito bites in the morning, when the people are less cautious, unlike the malaria-spreading Culex mosquito which attacks at night.

Teachers decided to boycott SSC spot valuation

Andhra Pradesh School teachers decided to boycott spot valuation of SSC answersheets, scheduled to commence from April 8, after their talks with the government failed.The Joint Action Committee of Teachers Organisations (Jacto), an umbrella of 17 teacher organisations, had served the boycott notice on March 29, asking the government to implement their demands before April 8. Their demands include: Bringing under local cadre, all teachers covered under GOs 95 and 96, bringing tribal schoolteachers under the uniform service rules, filling up vacancies in aided schools, implementing promotion and the old pension scheme, withdrawing 1/2005 Act with regard to language pandits, increasing remuneration for spot valuation and invigilation, and allowing apprentice teachers to take all categories of leaves.

Osmania Medical College junior docs arrested

MBBS students and house surgeons were arrested from Osmania Medical College after the students locked the gates of the college and refused to allow anybody inside. The 33 MBBS students and few house surgeons refused to allow the entry of staff and administrative authorities into the premises until justice was done. They picketed at the venue and burnt effigies of the vice-chancellor and registrar. Hyderabad police picked up the students to allow smooth functioning of the college administration. The agitating students were later released when the members of the AP Medical Students Association intervened.
Meanwhile, junior doctors all over the State joined the strike and boycotted classes.President of APMSA Dr K. Sailaja said, “The strike will not be called off until the government agrees to our demands.” The demands include fair counselling, revealing the questions for which extra marks were awarded and sacking of vice-chancellor and registrar of NTR University of Health Sciences.

DNA tests: Suspicious husbands proved wrong

Suspicious husbands have been proved wrong in a majority of DNA paternity tests in Andhra Pradesh. Only in 10 per cent of the tests have the nagging doubts of the husbands proved to be right. However, according to experts in the AP Forensic Science Laboratory, the facts are slightly different in the case of unmarried girls who give birth to children.The ‘official’ boyfriend is not the father of the child in 20 per cent of the cases. APFSL director K.P.C. Gandhi said the lab dealt with 30 cases of DNA fingerprinting every month, out of which 15 are paternity tests. “In 90 per cent of the cases, the doubting husbands are found to the biological fathers of the kids,” he said. The lab takes up three types of cases. The first type of test is conducted as per the orders of the court.In the second instance, the test is conducted after women register criminal cases alleging cheating. Then there are private disputes in which the husband and wife approach the lab to clear their doubts.

A Hyderabad student preparing for the Eamcet has been told to appear for the commerce stream, one day ahead of the intermediate exams beginning on Wednesday under the National Institute of Open Schooling.
Syeda Husna is a student of Rama’s College in Tarnaka, and was a student of the maths stream. She received her hall ticket only on Tuesday: It had to be given 10 days ago. The college says she will have to take the commerce exam. The National Institute of Open Schooling, headquartered in New Delhi, is a private institution offering distance education. It holds its own 10+2 examinations and its certificates are recognised.
